TechnologyOne welcomes the announcement by the Welsh Government of the new Cyber Security Operations Centre dedicated to enhancing the cyber security framework for the country’s public sector. This proactive step underscores the critical importance of safeguarding digital infrastructure in an increasingly interconnected world.
The new centre, set to provide centralised support for threat detection and response, will also lead to better cyber incident management and better intelligence sharing across public sector organisations to create a more resilient public sector capable of withstanding sophisticated cyber attacks.
In a survey of more than 500 senior managers at local authorities across the UK, TechnologyOne found that only a quarter ranked cyber security in their top three priorities despite over half stating they could not afford the cost of data breach. The figures come as councils become increasingly vulnerable to cyber attacks and data breaches, due to a historical reliance on outdated and disjointed systems that continue to be the standard.
Commenting on the announcement, Leo Hanna, UK Executive Vice President of TechnologyOne, whose modern technology powers the likes of Newport City Council, Denbighshire County Council, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Conwy County Borough Council, said: “As the United Kingdom’s fastest growing provider of modern Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions for district and unitary councils, we recognise the growing complexity of cyber threats and the necessity for robust cyber security measures.
“We commend the Welsh Government for their forward-thinking approach and commitment to protecting sensitive data and public sector operations. With cyber attacks becoming more prevalent, TechnologyOne invests tens of millions of dollars each year to provide customers with deep functionality, making products faster and more secure.”
TechnologyOne’s solutions meet the rigorous standards set by the UK’s Cyber Essentials framework and the company’s multi-layered security approach includes advanced threat detection, continuous monitoring, and rapid response protocols. This strategy ensures that every layer of the technology ecosystem is fortified against potential threats, offering robust protection to customers.
“Public sector back-end systems should be considered national critical infrastructure and accordingly should have the strongest cyber security credentials. Ensuring their protection is not just about compliance, but about safeguarding the very fabric of our public services. This new centre is a significant step towards a more secure future," Mr Hanna concluded.
