Amid growing pressure on UK emergency services to do more with less, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) has partnered with TechnologyOne to transform how it manages public resources, freeing up time, money and capacity to reinvest in the services that protect and support Bedfordshire communities.

BFRS will implement TechnologyOne’s OnePublicSector ERP platform to replace legacy systems with a single source of truth for finance, procurement and performance management, improving efficiency, strengthening governance and delivering greater value for the community. The result: less time spent on administration, greater transparency in how public money is spent, and more resources directed where they matter most.

The investment is part of a wider transformation programme to modernise core systems, improve transparency in public spending and strengthen long-term planning. Consolidating key functions onto one platform will give real-time access to financial and operational data, enabling faster decision-making and more accurate reporting.

Key priorities include reducing reliance on legacy systems, increasing automation, improving data quality and governance, strengthening forecasting and giving budget managers better tools and insight. Advanced analytics will support smarter investment decisions, while improving resilience, integration and security.

Unlike traditional ERP programmes that rely on multiple vendors and heavy customisation, TechnologyOne’s SaaS+ model brings software, implementation and support together in a single UK-hosted service to accelerate deployment and reduce complexity and costs.

The partnership positions BFRS for future innovation, including continuous product enhancements and access to TechnologyOne’s agentic AI capability, Plus, designed to automate routine tasks and boost productivity.

Neil Mulholland, Head of Finance at Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "As a public service, it is essential that we make the best possible use of our resources while continuing to provide a high standard of service to the communities we serve. By partnering with TechnologyOne and implementing a single, integrated platform, we will improve our financial visibility, streamline processes and strengthen decision-making across the organisation. This investment is an important part of our wider transformation programme and will help ensure we are well equipped to meet future challenges. Ultimately, this will help us deliver greater value for Bedfordshire residents while maintaining our focus on community safety.”

Ben Malpass, Executive Vice President, Local Government at TechnologyOne, said, “Emergency services are under pressure to do more with less, making real-time information more important than ever. The communities of Bedfordshire rely on their fire and rescue service every day, and this partnership will give BFRS the technology foundation it needs to operate at its best. By freeing up resources, strengthening financial accountability and giving leaders real-time insight, it will help the Service focus less on managing systems and more on protecting and serving the community.”

TechnologyOne continues to expand its presence across the UK public sector, supporting local authorities, emergency services, higher education institutions and other organisations as they modernise operations, reduce complexity and improve outcomes through a single enterprise platform.
