The City of Doncaster Council aims to slash its ERP and asset management system costs by moving to TechnologyOne’s purpose built local government solution – delivering an initial 20% saving, with the potential to exceed 50% through further system rationalisation and consolidation.

The new integrated system will strengthen services for residents and reduce cost and complexity, providing a single platform to manage finance, assets and works orders including team management, timesheet entry and timesheet costing functions.

As one of the UK’s largest metropolitan boroughs, serving more than 310,000 residents, Doncaster has been a pioneer in ERP adoption, implementing its first system in 2013 and building on that foundation over the past decade.

Doncaster chose TechnologyOne’s SaaS+ OneCouncil solution, a purpose-built ERP platform designed specifically for UK local government, to replace multiple legacy systems nearing end-of-life, consolidating into a single integrated platform.

Moving to a modern natively integrated platform is critical to streamlining operations, improving real-time insights, and enabling finance and asset management systems to work seamlessly together to predict and manage assets and projects.

Following a competitive procurement process with over 700 functional requirements, Doncaster selected TechnologyOne’s SaaS+ OneCouncil UK solution for its ability to deliver financial and asset management within a single integrated ERP, combining broad functionality and rapid implementation.

Faye Tyas, Chief Finance Officer and Service Director at City of Doncaster Council, said: “This is an ambitious step forward in our digital journey. We were determined to find a proven, integrated cloud ERP solution that not only matched our current capabilities but allowed us to expand. TechnologyOne’s SaaS+ platform delivers exactly that. We believe this programme will provide better system capabilities with no increase in cost, and the potential for around 50% cost reduction through rationalising and consolidating our asset management systems. Importantly, it enables us to deliver better outcomes for our staff and residents while reducing IT overhead.”

TechnologyOne’s OneCouncil solution enables significant benefits for councils, staff, suppliers, and residents by enabling anytime, anywhere access for maximum flexibility. By unifying asset and financial management in a single integrated application, it drives cost efficiency and can deliver savings of up to 50%. Self-service portals allow customers, suppliers, and contractors to engage online, while intuitive finance tools maintain powerful functionality. Modern works order and asset management capabilities replace multiple legacy systems. Through system and data consolidation, OneCouncil reduces complexity, improves efficiency, and delivers a seamless, unified experience for all users.

The ERP platform will further unify finance, budgeting, and procurement, streamline works orders and asset management plus facilitate project-based timesheets, while providing flexibility to extend into HR and payroll in the future.

Ben Malpass, Executive Vice President of Local Government, said: “Doncaster set out a bold digital transformation vision: to implement a functionally rich ERP solution that seamlessly integrates financial management, works order management, and asset management, powered by reliable shared data. Our partnership brings this vision to life through the OneCouncil SaaS+ platform, offering a proven, low-risk path to better outcomes. Doncaster is not only modernising its own services but also setting a benchmark for other local authorities to follow.”

TechnologyOne partners with more than 60 local authorities across the UK, including Royal Borough of Greenwich, Islington Council, Worcestershire County Council, Highland Council, and Newport City Council.
