North Tyneside Council (NTC) is partnering with global Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provider TechnologyOne to enable greater data security and economic resilience, rolling out its Financials solution to support services for its over 200,000 residents and six million yearly visitors.

The new SaaS Plus-enabled OneCouncil solution will replace the council’s legacy on-premise financial product, lifting the security posture of North Tyneside’s operations and regularly deploying platform-wide security enhancements to maintain optimal protection.

The move to a secure platform is timely, with 59% of councils reporting having an outdated approach to cyber security according to research by FT Longitude.

The implementation will leverage TechnologyOne’s innovative SaaS Plus offering that significantly reduces risk for the council and speeds up time to value. The offering places the responsibility for the complete solution, including implementation, operation, future releases and support on TechnologyOne, all for a single annual fee.

North Tyneside Council’s Director of Resources, Jon Ritchie said: “We have ambitious goals to make North Tyneside an even greater place to live, work and visit, so we are thrilled to partner with a provider that shares our drive and focus on implementing technology to continually enhance the services we offer our residents and colleagues.

“We are looking forward to working with TechnologyOne and the benefits it will bring us, our colleagues and our residents. Whilst this is predominantly an internally facing system, this forms part of our ambition to digitise our services and drive benefits for our residents, as we continue to maximise the value of our resources.”

North Tyneside will harness the expertise of TechnologyOne’s highly skilled in-house consulting team, allowing the council to redirect staff away from troubleshooting IT issues and towards delivering improved services for residents.

TechnologyOne UK Executive Vice President, Leo Hanna, said: “Managing extensive IT infrastructure and servers should not be a primary focus for local authorities, especially at a time where councils are expected to do more with less funding amid rising costs. We commend North Tyneside Council on their proactivity in investing in an innovative solution that enables improved future planning and greater data security.”

TechnologyOne partners with unitary authorities and district councils across the United Kingdom, including Blackpool Council, Conwy County Borough Council and Derby City Council.
