Edinburgh Napier University is living up to its name as Scotland’s top modern university, moving its on-premise exam scheduling solution to TechnologyOne’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Exam Scheduler to facilitate greater success for its over 20,000 students.

With several campuses located across Edinburgh, developing efficient exam schedules that consider room accessibility, staff and invigilator availability and students’ individual requirements is an increasingly complex task.

TechnologyOne’s Exam Scheduler leverages advanced algorithms and intuitive user interfaces to automate the process of creating and managing exam timetables. The SaaS solution also supports the process of recruiting and allocating invigilators and allows them to self-manage their availability from their own device.

Edinburgh Napier University Timetabling Manager Alli Coyle said: “Our top priority is to create an environment where every student can thrive and has equal opportunity to perform to the best of their abilities. By offering a user-friendly interface and real-time access to teaching and exam timetables via Publish, TechnologyOne’s SaaS solution empowers students to effectively plan their studies and prepare for their exams.

“We are already seeing numerous benefits now that we are live with SaaS Exam Scheduler, including improved functionality and added automation. By equipping our Student Administration Team, who are responsible for delivering exams, with innovative tools, they can boost their productivity and identify opportunities to provide value to our students and colleagues.

A long-time customer of TechnologyOne’s on-premise Timetabling and Scheduling solution, the move to SaaS Exam Scheduler and Publish adds to Resource Booker, further enhancing operational efficiency and student satisfaction.

TechnologyOne UK Executive Vice President Leo Hanna said: “Time management is an important part of the university experience and we’re keen to help students better manage their workload and activities. As for administrators, with so many conflicting demands put on academic resources, scheduling and effectively managing resources across multiple faculties and sites is incredibly intricate.”

“SaaS-enabled technology considers a multitude of data points, for example students who need extra time during exams, and can apply that insight in a schedule. This in turn reduces the administrative burden on staff and allows them to redirect their efforts towards supporting students.”

TechnologyOne provides a true SaaS solution, focusing on device flexibility and future readiness for universities. By regularly deploying platform-wide security enhancements, it ensures universities are provided with optimal protection.
